Program Details for Grades K-5

8:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday (July 6 - August 20)

Led by our 5th Grade Teacher, Joan Christou, our elementary students will engage in a multisensory exploration of Nature in the Neighborhood. Through cross-curricular activities combining Science, Math, History, Art, Reading and Writing, students learn about the natural history of the Lower East Side, home to the largest concentration of community gardens in the country. Children design, plant and grow their own gardens over the summer while visiting the many local gardens lovingly maintained by community neighbors. Students focus their mornings on hands-on learning with NEST+m teachers. After lunch, they enjoy afternoons of creative play, sports, games and arts activities led by The Henry Street Settlement.

Grades 9-12 will be in session Monday-Thursday from 8:00am-2:30pm from July 6 - August 12. Our teens will focus their summer on Little Island -- the new man-made floating island in the Hudson River. Students analyze what it took to create this stunning engineering feat through in-class and on-site cross-curricular projects which combine Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Math, Urban Planning, Project Management, Landscaping and NYC History. Our NEST+m faculty will lead the program, including collaborative projects and trips culminating in student proposals for future NYC initiatives.
